Abstract. Noise pollution is a key environmental indicator of the urban environment. Noise is one of the most aggressive forms of pollution. This article presents a literature review of the concept of noise pollution, which indicates the impact of noise on humans. An urban area (the city of Volgograd) was examined for specific pollution. The article examines urban noise as a factor significantly affecting the environmental well-being of the population. The conditions of a modern urbanized environment, in which noise exposure is persistent and multifaceted, are considered. This type of noise impacts transport employment, namely, automobile, rail, and air transport. Social and commercial activities also make a significant contribution. It is noted that even in the absence of extreme impacts, noise exposure has a negative impact on the physiological and psycho-emotional state of a person. The paper analyzes the assessment of noise impact and substantiates the need to take it into account when planning the urban environment. It is concluded that reducing noise levels is a mandatory requirement for improving the quality of life of the population and, consequently, the sustainability of stable territories.
