Abstract. Bulbocodium versicolor (Ker-Gawl.) Spreng. (Colchicaceae) is a rare, federally and regionally protected early-flowering ephemeral plant that grows in the steppe communities of European Russia. B. versicolor is characterized by the formation of sparse and local cenopopulations due to limited seed reproduction and sensitivity to anthropogenic impact. One of these populations is located on the slope of the southern exposure of the Otrada gully, within the administrative boundaries of the Kirovsky district of the city of Volgograd. The surveyed population of B. versicolor is the largest known to us in the city. It has been preserved here for several decades despite active anthropogenic impact. The paper presents the results of a primary assessment of the condition of this cenopopulation on a 25 m2 test site. The population density is 5.88 individuals/m². The age structure is characterized by a predominance of generating individuals: 74.1% of generative individuals and 25.9% of pregenerative individuals. The phytocenosis including B. versicolor was described using the Brown-Blanquet method, and information about the floristic environment of the population was provided. The ontogenetic states of the individuals in this cenopopulation were determined, and the recovery index was calculated at 34.9%. It was found that the population has a high proportion of generative plants and an aggregated distribution pattern. The obtained assessment results indicate the stability of the studied cenopopulation. Its condition can be assessed as satisfactory with a stable number.
