Abstract. At the present time, the regulation of lipid metabolism is well studied in adipose tissue, liver, kidneys, myocardium and a number of muscle tissues. At the same time, there is a lack of understanding of the mechanisms of lipid metabolism in the connective tissues, especially those that are involved in the functioning of the musculoskeletal system. This metabolism is provided by highly specialized cells of the connective tissue series: chondrocytes, osteocytes, and the like. This article presents a review of current literature on the results of lipid metabolism studies in chondrocytes. Particular attention is paid to such aspects as genetic regulation of synthesis and disintegration of lipids in chondrocytes, the relationship between complex metabolic processes leading to accumulation in the cartilaginous tissue of lipids and various pathologies is traced. The beneficial effect of polyunsaturated fatty acids on the metabolism of chondrocytes was noted.
Key words: chondrocytes, lipid metabolism, cartilage, fatty acids, osteoarthritis.
