Abstract. The article analyses historical aspects of the development of the vocational guidance system. Question about the conscious choice of the direction of future work and profession taking into account the interests, needs and psycho-physiological features is of great importance for particular individual and for the country as a whole. There is a great variety of psychological methods and techniques of the study of professions, individuallypersonal features for the future professional self-determination. The theory of professional selection is based primarily on the theoretical foundations of psychophysiology and arose from the needs of development of human society having historical importance and current relevance. There is a clear dependence of the heyday of professional
self-determination. Evaluation of professional suitability of the man comes from the depth of centuries. On the basis of the historical heritage of past generations regarding focused social influence on the individual to the level of actual freedom of choice for the majority of the population. The process of focused professional selection includes a diagnostic framework of knowledge, skills and abilities of a potential employee. Modern profession is regarded as a
reliable means to build your own success in life, spent with the help of the profession in society. Professional education forms motivated professional intentions, which are based on the awareness of different needs and their psycho-physiological features. Currently, it is possible to speak of a revival of interest in career counseling, including school. Historical analysis of the professional orientation of students showed that this process is a priority direction in activity of educational institutions, ensuring the harmonious development of personality under modern conditions of life.
