Abstract. Biofeedback is the process of achieving a greater patient’s awareness of many physiological functions of his body, primarily with the use of tools that provide him with information on his activities, to be able to manage the systems of his body by his own discretion. Biofeedback is considered as a branch of behavioral therapy, for the purpose of psychophysiological state regulation. The paper presents a theoretical analysis of scientific presuppositions underlying the establishment of the method of analysis of the effectiveness of therapy with the use of biofeedback in different types of clinical pathology, which opens up the possibility for the patient to implement self-regulation mechanisms. Developed in such way application of biofeedback, “functional system of self-regulation” form leads to its perfect result. Currently, biofeedback considered as practically the only scientific psychophysiological method of alternative medicine. Summarizing the literature, we can say that biofeedback provides a tool for disclosure and use of body reserves; it fits in any scheme to improve the quality of life. The advantage of biofeedback is inherent in it the potential for the development of self-control and self-regulation, taking into account the individual characteristics of a person. The adaptive biocontrol based on external feedback, makes it possible to obtain stable positive changes in the various physiological systems of the body, which opens up broad prospects for its practical use.
Key words: biofeedback, psychophysiology, psychosomatic medicine, medical psychology, behavioral therapy, functional systems of self-regulation, psychological and functional rehabilitation.
